The Managing Directors of Fraser Coast Training have a unique background of both experience and qualifications.

John Penna Coming from a farming background, operating plant and equipment, worked in Perth in Western Australia for Bells and then Bellways. He gained his Crane Tickets first on the smaller BHP crane and then up to 200 tonne cranes and also operating the triple road trains carrying salt and driving fuel tankers north to Kunnamarra and further east.

John operated the 30 tonne "Tadano" cranes and the larger cranes on numerous occasions in emergency situations during and after cyclones in the North. He often carried out dual lifting operations (bringing yachts out of the water), traveling throughout the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. John operated his own successful crane hire business throughout Western Australia and South Australia, prior to relocating in Queensland.

John Penna has over 30 years safety record of working in the building and construction industry and in mining in all states. He became a Trainer and Assessor for both the building and construction industry and mining and is now a Workplace Health and Safety Officer and a Trainer and Assessor on a Mine Site.


Joylene Penna is the CEO and Co-Managing Director of Fraser Coast Training. She is a lifestyle consultant and her background and experience in the field of Human Resources includes working in a training college at Papua New Guinea. She has worked within the education department, child care, hospital departments, Police department and the disability sector where she established a respite care; became manager of a disability accommodation support service and Acting Regional Director of a home and community care not-for-profit organisation,. Her sea experiences include being an Executive Secretary for the world's largest Mobile Oil rig, the Zapata Arctic, and worked on board the MV Bembridge, a survey ship, in the North Sea.

Joylene has compiled numerous short courses, tailored resumes and key selection criteria and assisted persons with life style decisions. Short courses include:
  • Management, Roles and Responsibilities
  • Mapping Your Destiny
  • Shifting Sands
  • Bachelor of Community Welfare Degree (James Cook University)
  • Caring for the Carer
Joylene has gained her Bachelor Community Welfare Degree and Diploma for TAA, Frontline Management as well as Certificate III in Business Administration. She has gained her S1, S2 and S3 (Mine Site Supervisory Course) and qualified in the extension competencies of the TAA for Numeracy and Literacy.
